As the season begins to wrap up and cooler, denser air moves in, racers all over the country are seeing big improvements in their performance – especially those who are running BigStuff3 powertrain management systems.
Just halfway through October and BS3’s racers are already making history through milestone moments such as new world records and incredible wins in prestigious series including the NHRA and PDRA.
- Chris Powers of Powers Xtreme Motorsports had a standout season and capped it off with a runner up performance in PDRA Extreme Pro Stock at the PDRA World Finals presented by ProCharger at Virginia Motorsports Park that also earned him the season championship title.
Trusting his BigStuff3 ECU to keep his Sonny’s Racing Engines-powered 2014 Chevrolet Camaro running right, Powers started the race from the number six spot in qualifying after having gone 4.090 at 157.78 mph, then improved to 4.024 at 177.58 mph in round two of eliminations.
The Pennsylvania-based racer continued his advancement through to the finals where he made his fifth final round appearance of the season. Having won two races earlier in the year, Powers picked up his third runner up accolade and secured the PDRA Extreme Pro Stock championship for 2021.
- Fresh off his big win in NHRA Mountain Motor Pro Stock at the NHRA Midwest Nationals in September, John DeFlorian took his BigStuff3 GEN3 ECU equipped 2015 Chevrolet Camaro to the PDRA World Finals presented by ProCharger event at Virginia Motorsports Park over the weekend of October 15-17 and had an absolutely amazing outing.
There, DeFlorian qualified first in the Liberty’s Gears Extreme Pro Stock presented by AED Competition Fuel Systems category with a 4.047 at 178.35 mph blast. He followed it up by expertly piloting his beautiful orange car to a 4.000 at 179.56 mph eighth-mile pass and reset the class’s elapsed time world record in round two of eliminations. Finally, to make the weekend even more incredible, DeFlorian captured the overall event win when he defeated Chris Powers in the finals.
Although the man from Missouri is still on the hunt for his first run in the 3-second zone, there’s no doubt that it is on its way and that the BigStuff3 powertrain management system will help make it a reality.
- Meanwhile, California-based racer Joe Roubichek has been busy running his 1968 Chevrolet Camaro in PDRA MagnaFuel Products Top Sportsman. Roubichek picked up the class win at the PDRA Pro Line Racing Drag Wars Presented by Modern Racing event at GALOT Motorsports Park in North Carolina over the first weekend of October and has now doubled-up with back-to-back victories while racing at Virginia Motorsports Park at the PDRA World Finals presented by ProCharger.
In qualifying, Roubichek landed fourteenth in the massive field of fifty-four entries when he went 4.255 at 165.11 mph in the eighth-mile.
When eliminations began, Roubichek had his BigStuff3 GEN3 ECU controlled and fuel injected Camaro dialed in perfectly as he took down five other racers on his way to the final round to face off against Jeff Melnick. There, Roubichek’s Sonny Leonard engine powered his Jerry Bickel-built machine to a second straight win thanks to a final trip of 4.177 at 168.16 mph with a near-perfect 0.005-second reaction time for the driver.
- With a BigStuff3 GEN4-controlled and nitrous-assisted big block engine from Green Racing under the hood, Don Meziere had a great weekend at the NHRA Division 7 double-header event at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway with a win in Top Sportsman.
Meziere surely had a handle on his tune up right from the start. He qualified second for the class, went to the semi-finals in the first race and was on a mission in the second when he let loose with a string of successful 6.6-second blasts in eliminations to earn a trip to the finals. In the sixth round, Meziere capped off the event when he lit the win light in his lane by way of a 6.696 at 206.39 mph pass and received a Wally to commemorate the victory.
- Jeff Brooks of JEB Four Racing scored the coveted number one spot in Top Sportsman qualifying while racing at the NHRA Division 1 event at Cecil County Dragway in Maryland in early October.
During the second session, Brooks’s BigStuff3-controlled and Sonny’s Racing Engines-powered 1951 Henry J clicked off an impressive 6.370 at 217.35 mph blast to lead the field. Brooks earned a bye run in the first round of eliminations as a result of his performance and ran 6.365 at 218.62 mph there, but went out in round two in an extremely close race.
